‘Lightyear’ Review

‘Lightyear’ is the ‘Toy story’ spin-off that nobody really asked for, but it is really good fun.

“In 1995 Andy got a toy from his favourite movie, this is that movie” ….I’m paraphrasing. Buzz is an actual space ranger in this film, not a deluded toy. Buzz’s suit has been redesigned to be a little grittier looking, more iron man reminiscent and Chris Evans steps in to fill Tim Allen’s shoes as lightyears voice.

Put simply, whilst trapped on a remote planet Buzz does what he can to get every back home, which means sacrificing the opportunity to have a good life.

Through all the toy story references subtly sprinkled throughout the film and the more actiony take on this character the film shines. Buzz mimicry of the toys mannerisms and catchphrases excite devoted film and Pixar nerds. This film is a good time for both children and adults.
